Drinking [Milk] and Drawing

I injured my drawing hand yesterday, so it might just be Liz posting for a day or two, but thankfully I've found some pinch hitters to tide me through our escape from New Orleans. Thanks for this, Jaron:

He also took a crack at drawing Liz and me sitting on a bench in a NOLA park, but his stick figure efforts were later trumped by the brilliant color work of Madeline and Peyton, who are 3:

After their warmup they tried a bit of tandem abstract expressionism:

I know lots of people think our work is kind of crap, but it's always a little harsh when small children who "have trouble with the color blue" paint circles around you. Good work, ladies.

File Under "C" for Crazy

DnD Arrives in NOLA.

"This Is A Seductive City."

First bartender drawn in the city of New Orleans:

"At Least the Ladies Room has a Door?"

Bourbon Street. New Orleans. Louisiana. Or is it Burbon Street?

Liz and I have funny ways of drawing the same things, but different.

Not that different though.

"Quick, Take a Drawing!"

We all have our own versions:

Of this awesome bridge into New Orleans:

It turns out that drawing bridges at 70 miles per hour is not as easy as it sounds.

Drawing on the Road

With the addition of third driver Jaron, both Liz and I were able to do some road drawings on the trip between Asheville, NC and NEW ORLEANS, LA. Also, we're just combining authors into single posts here.

Show Chickens?

God's Sky:

A Subaru station wagon with MASS plates full of hipsters & watercolours heads south through Alabama.

"Y'all Got Any... Wrestlin' Cups?"

This is the sandwich I ate on our first morning in Asheville, NC. It was so delicious that I spontaneously combusted into Liz:

The Wedge Brewery in Asheville. Glass of 9% Belgian white? $2.50. Not buying a Pabst at The Basement for $3.50? Priceless.

This is Jackson, the best damn bartender at the best damn bar in Asheville. He can make little foam shamrocks on the top of the Guinness he just poured you because from 30 feet away he saw that you were almost done with your last one:

Also, I apparently can now be found on the kitchen floor of Jaron's apartment in Asheville, sans-pants. This information will be included in future Asheville Board of Tourism pamphlets:

See you tomorrow, in New Orleans.

Day 3, Part 2: We Belong Here, We Can Spell It.

A Day Of Drinking In Asheville, NC.

DnD, very hungover in the South.
Birds on a wire. & a train. At a brewing company.
Outdoor daytime drinking. What we came for.
Wedge Brewing Company, West Asheville.
Our extraordinarily awesome bartenders at the Bier Garden, Jackson & Casey.
If Jed can draw his breakfast, I can draw hot chicks at the bar.
We are currently located at a Wendy's in Georgia near the Alabama border.
We'll be Drinking & Drawing in New Orleans by tonight.

Day 3, Part 1: The Best Sandwich Ever.

& it really was.
In the morning (or rather late afternoon) of our first day in asheville,
we located jed's pants, & headed out for a very late breakfast, before the drinking beer began again around 3pm. oh this town, you're stealing my heart.

Pecan Crusted Fried Green Tomatoes with Maple Black Pepper Bacon & Goat Cheese, on a Croissant, with Chipolte Cheese Grits. Everything local.
Oh Oh Oh Fuck.
I actually cried while eating this sandwich.

We really really love asheville.
& shit just keeps getting more off the hook.
"If There's a Way to Get A DUI in Mississippi, I'll Find It."
-the third member of this insane road show & our host in asheville, said just now in the bar.

Theory #2: You'll Find Out Later

Guest poster at the Bier Garden in Asheville, NC: Justine.

It really was the drunkest night of our lives. Thank you, Asheville. Thank you, Bravo:

What I gather from this and the last drawing is that yes, we were both drunk:

Where are my pants?

Day 2: The Sun Sets On The Most Beautiful Day Of Our Lives.

And also one of the drunkest nights. Oh fuck we love driving through the applachians. oh fuck we love asheville.

Breakfast in west philly.
foamhenge. virginia. & cheese.
In which we die of beauty, & Virginia kicks Massachusetts' ass. Totally.
& then we got really really really epically drunk in asheville.
Without further details, sometimes DnD wakes up in strange places & missing certain key articles of clothing.

NOTE: This is the first DnD post ever actually done in a bar. Fuck Yeah.
Live From the Bier Garden, Asheville, NC. Tomorrow: New Orleans.

Day One: Noho to West Philly.

bacon always makes things better for DnD.
breakfast at jake's, before leaving noho this morning.

driving on the new york thruway.
in other news, connecticut is the worst state ever. less good things happen there than in south deerfield even.

Metal Mexican Mondays, in West Philly, Matt's house, in which there was no metal & we all learn something about words & where they come from.
Yep, the same bar that started it all.
Thanks Matt & Co. for randomly deciding to take us there.

Dahlak.
Our hosts for the first night.
Day Two: We enter the true South & shit gets serious.
On to Asheville, NC.

Day 1: "Don't Worry, I'm a Professional"

So on Day 1 of our road trip we ended up in the same bar Jono posted about two months ago and which was, incidentally, the cause of this whole road trip business. But I spelled it differently, so it's like a new bar:

I'm not even going to bother annotating the rest of the night.

Tomorrow: Asheville, NC.

'Aight. This is It.

So by this time tomorrow Drinking and Drawing will be past and future tense in Northampton. Liz and I are driving from Mass. to Philly to Asheville where we intend to acquire friend Jaron for another leg on to New Orleans.

We'll be liveblogging as much as possible from the road, but how often that actually is will be decided primarily by the density of wifi signals in the deep south. A dubious proposition to say the least.

Stay tuned...

See You Next Week.

DnD living it up in noho, the weekend pre-road trip, August 14th & 15th, 2009. What the hell will the basement, bishops, WorldWarII, the office, etc. do without us for one week? I shudder to think.

Matt singing "Modern Love" at WWII karaoke.
Matt's rendition of my performance of "Oops I Did It Again", still at the Deuce. We also became very moved by some Cranberries lyrics, so Matt wrote them down.
Ah, Kathy's, so very very many chocolate shakes.
Apparently, they ruin french fries, too? I don't know. I don't know. It was very late.
Next post from the road.
DnDnD2K09. Starting Tomorrow Morning.

My Contribution to Society

Oh Thursdays. You're so great. You do this for me:

And this (!):

And you do things for Janessa, too:

You even do things for tooly looking hipsters who look like me:

Sometimes, you even do things for days that aren't Thursdays:

God bless you, Thursdays, each and every one.
