DnD Has Many Faces.

Tonight, for a different sort of DnD, dinner with the always lovely Beth at my apartment.

A Drawing from Beth,
an even more old school contributor to the classic Art Parties on Prospect Street than
Matt D. even.
Lady, so nice to have you out & drawing again.
My drawing of Beth across my kitchen table. I assume she understands that I am not the portraitist of this operation, & that my drawings of people are more about how I feel & less about how people actually look, cause this one is really pretty sloppy for such a gorgeous lady.
& of course we ate a delicious dinner, 'cause I am always about bringing the cooking back into the drinking & drawing.
So, a Thursday DnD at my apartment with an old friend instead of back at the office with the mostly new ones. Pretty seriously nice actually.
Although, it's not even 11pm, & this thursday sure ain't over yet.
So who knows what happens next?
(this post dedicated to beth, for not being one of those who avoids the drama, happy three days until your birthday, dear).

Comics At The Grocery Store Week Continues.

& now presenting, what I did at work TODAY.
Yup, pretty similar to YESTERDAY.
"A Narrative of Objects, But Certainly Not An Objective One:
The 'True' Story Of What Happened To Us at DnD Last Week."

Someone moved.
Laundry was retrieved & texts sent us to all the wrong places.
New chairs were sat in & conversations of all sorts were held.
Disaster ensues.
Did we always know it would come to this?
(actually, answer=no).
Written & drawn in between the 164 transactions I rang up today, 9.10.2009.

As Summer Draws To A Close...

...some drawings from an early August trip to Cape Cod that never got posted due to pre-DnDnD2k09 excitement.
(Family, Friends, Food,

& all the complications that ensue.)

First night leftovers dinner in the guest room at my mom's house, when that sort of thing was still comforting.
The next morning, a classic trip to the sparrow & what was formerly new york bagels, followed by even more classic cape cod church thriftstoring. Oh, Joanie's.
2nd night of the visit, when the leftovers all alone in my room thing gets angry, & way too reminiscent of high school.
But then, a fabulous lunch with gramma the next day at Clancy's.
"It's too early for a martini so I guess I'll have a margarita."

Yes! & a FRIED SCALLOP PLATTER.
& then we went to job lot & the astonishingly good dennis marshall's.
heart heart heart, gramma, guess where my personality came from?
OH, RIGHT, YOU.
Followed by a much needed dinner party with jed & melissa back in noho at my then brand new apartment. First shared meal at the new apartment, in fact.
& I believe jed drew us both bending over a lot while unpacking books in short skirts, & then we all went to the 11's to dance, cause it was wednesday.
This brief moment of summer 2009, brought to you by my current need to remember the more innocent times.

A Brief Comic. Drawn At The Grocery Aisle.

A Day In My Life, circa Fall 2009 (i.e. NOW).
or,
(What I Did At The Grocery Store Today Was Draw This Comic).
or,
9.09.09.
(I typed that at 9:09pm, by coincidence, not kidding).

scraps regarding scraps.
awoken by identical grey tiger cats, & walking in my boots & legwarmers.
selling food, & eating yet more soup.
wine, the internets, vegetables.
art, then dancing.
late night walks, reading this, the cats once more. LinkThe End.
(This is what I do at work.)
What do you do at work?

Whitehaus Montague Rendevous

I don't know all the acts;
however
Gracious Calamity is combined in red
Lord Jeff dominates the blue
Shane wears purple well
the others were as equally enchanting.

The Good & the Bad & the Deliciousness Of It All.

Feeding people & what it means to do so has a lot to do with context.
So, some recent meals at DnD,
hovering around the brink of disaster.

Two very sad sandwiches.
Very very late at night, once again.
Sometimes our bad eating habits do attempt to destroy us.
But sometimes cooking for our dear, sweet, beautiful friends brings us back.
Dinner with beth instead of my birthday party, 9.6.09.
& dinner with melissa on labor day.
THE RETURN of the bacon lasagna.
Sitting at a table (or on the floor) with your friends & eating food goes a long way towards restoring peace of mind.
Cooking, drawing, DnD.
We stopped being funny for a while this week, & this might continue for a bit, but at least we remember here at DnD that bacon tastes good, & your real friends are always there, even when they take breaks sometimes.
& hell, at least we're honest.
I told you this fall was gonna be messy.
(in every possible sense of the word)

The Party at the End of the Universe

A slew of negative things have happened recently in the lives of several of our regular DnDers, but I would like to focus on the good which always punctuates even our worst days. Like Ella Longpre's beautiful set at the Sierra Grille last Thursday:

And old feelings (about ZZ Top) rekindled at an enchanting Bookmill concert:

And a birthday party for some of my best friends, those absent and in attendance:

So whatever is going on for you, no matter what happens, always remember:

And drawing will always be an option.

It Was the Age of Wisdom, It Was the Age of Foolishness

One from an amazing series by Lisette and myself at the Bookmill. Lots more of these to come as I finish them up / we find Lisette's sketchbook to scan:

Also, I'm still working on learning to use the ink brush. Results may vary:

At Least I'm Not Addicted To Astral Projection.

An emotionally complex Sunday in the life of DnD,
after a night of Nips & Feathers.

(the night jed was a lady)(8.29.09)

You know it was a rough night when you wake up & you're a doctor.
I used to be a fish.
& I currently believe in beauty & rainbow chard when stop & shop is out of
dino kale.

& CLOUDS.
sometimes you cook by yourself in the midst of chaos, & it's
ALRIGHT.
(pronounced the special way a native new orleanian would say it)

but being addicted to astral projection would totally be worse.
& I'll be alright, I'm white.
(wait for the backstory on the comment, THAT IS A DIRECT QUOTE, from someone, somewhere, deep deep deep in the American South.)

aw, remember DnDnD2k09?

Wednesday, You Sure Are The New Thursday. Heya, Wednesday.

Yup, We sure are in for an interesting fall here at Drinking & Drawing. Wednesdays. Hmmm. Yeah, let's do it.
DnD. Lisette's porch. Last Wednesday.

"I'm staring at a broom. I don't have that much to say."
Jed drawing.
Water Under The Bridge, & By Water, I Mean Blood.
I Don't Think Crazy Ever Represented A Median. Or Maybe Just In Northampton.
It's been a crazy week for DnD, & by crazy , I do mean CRAZY, & I think we've all pulled it together quite nicely. I turned into Matisse, we did some drawings, ate a lot of pizza, wine bottles are everywhere, literally all over town, & hopefully we'll all still be best friends forever tomorrow.
Or at least continue to have mad crazy arguments about art all over the place. Take note, Noho. Art is here.
& BY ART, WE MEAN ROCK MUSIC.
(But not crappy rock music)

This Is How We Live.

With a lot of ridiculous hi-jinks & a lot of late night food.

Pizza at Hugo's last night. Not for the first time, nor will it be the last.
& the incredible dinner prepared for me by the lovely Lisette, post-DnD Thursday last week, eaten sometime very very late at night. Made after a night of art & whiskey, & only from the random contents of my pantry post-road trip.
Art, Alcohol, Food, Friends = What We Stand For.
(Fuck you traditional mealtimes)

Wednesday: the Thursday in the Middle of the Week

This is what happens on Wednesdays at Lisette's sweet new house:

Also, I drew Jodie's new haircut, finally (it hasn't been new for like 4 months):
I think it looks about as much (or little) like her as the last one, but at least it's a better drawing.
